About Rita Robles
"Call it vanity, but I would like to be a lot smaller, especially in my wedding dress."

Years ago I was superwoman, holding three jobs and chasing around my kids. Now playing baseball in the yard feels like work and when I take out the trash I’m huffing and puffing.

My Story

I was the stereotypical teenage girl who got pregnant and married the wrong guy. After several years of shortcomings and broken promises, I hit rock bottom. I finally saw things clearly: If I wanted a better life I need to move on. I had no pride, no dignity. I was just a shell of myself. We had a bitter divorce. As a single mom, I struggled hard to make ends meet. There were times I was a full-time student, holding three jobs, and basically raising three kids alone with very little help from family or friends. My kids may not have had everything they always wanted, but they did have everything they needed. There was always a roof over their head and food in their belly.

For the past 2 years I’ve been in the first healthy relationship of my life. We hope to marry in the near future and, call it vanity, but I would like to be a lot smaller, especially in my wedding dress. In the past 15 years, I’ve gained nearly 70 pounds. My weight began shooting up after my third pregnancy when I developed severe allergies and asthma. I took steroids to control the asthma, which caused weight gain that stayed put long after I stopped taking the meds. Constantly stressed and lacking time, I often ate fast food.

But beyond the way I look, I’m just tired of being tired. Years ago I was superwoman, holding three jobs and chasing around my kids. Now playing baseball in the yard feels like work and when I take out the trash I’m huffing and puffing.
