About Rob Snow
"I want to get back in shape and lose the gut but the combo of financial woes and motivation drain is why I haven’t already taken the initiative."
After living 6 years in Austin and 6 months in Denver, I moved to Houston in June to try and save money. The cost of living is cheaper, and I found a job waiting tables at a French restaurant. I love snowboarding (whenever I can make it up to the mountains) and watching and playing basketball.

Getting Started
June 15, 2008
When I met with my trainer Colin Gittings at 24 Hour Fitness Meyerland Plaza Sport, I told him I want to get leaner and faster—be able to run 5 miles if I want—and to gain some muscle definition.
Pins in my kneecap from the time I fell out of a tree and shattered my knee can make running painful. But my trainer told me the treadmill has some shock absorption and it's a lot less strenuous on my legs than jogging on sidewalks or streets. Lately, I've been running 10 minutes on the treadmill, cycling 10 minutes on the stationary bike, and plan to start swimming 20 minutes in the lap pool twice a week.
He took my measurements and told me about the bodybugg calorie management system, an online program to track calories. He suggested I eat four meals a day to get my metabolism going a little faster.

We focused on upper body and core, which meant planks, a lot of dumbbell and barbell exercises, and platform box jumps and step ups.
My trainer will wear you out. I joke to my boss that after 10 sessions I'm going to hate this guy. There were presses I did with dumbbells holding my arms straight out to my sides, raising them to the sky, and bringing them back down to a 90-degree angle. Keeping the right position was tough because I just wanted to let my arms drop on the way down. In the last couple of reps [15 reps, 3 sets, 15 lbs], I could barely lift my arms. I was sore at the end of the day and the following day I was very, very sore. I was definitely going up the stairs slower at work and had aches in my arms and pecs. At least I know something is working.
