Don't let flu season get you down!

Health Tips for Flu Season

While flu hits hardest in the fall, we're really susceptible all year long. Make sure you practice these behaviors to avoid the flu any time of year.

A different kind of flu season is upon us and we all need to take basic precautions to protect our families and ourselves. The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) encourages everyone to practice smart and healthy behaviors that could help avoid the flu any time of year.

WASH your hands with soap and water frequently.

CLEAN telephone headsets regularly, and use only one "personal" telephone, if possible. Thoroughly wash cups and utensils, or use disposable cups.

AVOID passing around foods that people tend to share.

COVER your mouth when you sneeze or cough.

EAT a nutritious, well-balanced diet.

GET plenty of rest.

If you start experiencing any combination of the signs and symptoms below, you may have the flu and should consult with your doctor. Please protect your coworkers by staying home and getting the rest you will need to recover. Symptoms include:

  • Chills and sweats
  • Dry cough
  • Muscular aches and pains, especially in your back, arms and legs
  • Fatigue and weakness
