THE PLAN
“Two weekly sessions with my trainer give my body the base I need to perform difficult Tae Kwon Do moves. A strong core is a must to keep my balance when giving, and sometimes taking, kicks and punches. So I combine core exercises, strength training, and drills to make my kicks and punches aggressive and strong.”
THE OBSTACLE
“Deep tissue bruises from an opponent’s attack are painful and can limit my training and performance. You do your best to avoid them, but since Tae Kwon Do is a combat sport, you just have to deal with them.”
THE SOLUTION
The idea is to train Amanda’s body to respond quickly to avoid powerful kicks that could lead to bruising, says Marc Coleman, a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness in Carrollton, Texas. Asking a trainer to lead her through dynamic flexibility stretches and reaction drills will prepare her muscles to move quickly, allowing her to succeed at such a high level of the sport.
